HIV/AIDS AWERENESS TO THE YOUTH by ACHEAMPONG HENRY YAW

People did it once and they had it. Why not you? Count yourself fortunate among the negatives. PLWHAS are like you; they did no wrong but that is where they find themselves. It could have been you for the first time you had it so count yourself blessed. The fact still remains that everybody is vulnerable.

Colleagues, it seems no better thing is for the continent Africa. In today’s world, the woes of the disease are all being claimed on us. It is not just a filthy comment on us neither an exaggeration but the real picture of the situation on the ground.

Many organizations, NGO’S and individuals have spent their precious time and resources over the years on HIV/AIDS education. The attempt to arrest the infection rate has become vital these days because it has been noted that, the disease has no cure but one can prevent him or herself from infection.

Also, staying an HIV negative person, a whole lot depends on us as individuals. Among all the mode of transmissions, sexual acts with or without condom is the most severe one. Believe you me, condoms are not 100% secured. We are the most sexually active group and therefore the most offenders. This is the more reason why the youth must engage in the fight.

No one today would bear the risk of having sex with PLWHA but how would you know whether an individual is positive or not. There are many stages after one has been infected. Some stages make PLWHAS more beautiful than before. You and I can be tempted by any of these developments on a PLWHAS. Moreover, it has become more dangerous today because no one can declare him or herself unless texted. To be sincere, everybody is scarred but the question is how do we abstain?

Let us together analyze this scenario.

A taxi driver who picked a girl to drop midnight, on reaching the outskirts, stopped and wanted to rape the girl. He forced the girl to remove her clothing of which she did. On course of the action, the girl was thinking on what to do to save herself. When the driver was about doing it, the girl patiently asked please do you have a condom. The driver intend asked why? In her response, she said I am an HIV positive so I beg of you use a condom so that you woudn’t be infected. The driver on hearing this said ‘SHIT’ you are lucky. He rose and left the girl in the bush. But the unfortunate part of the story is that, the girl couldn’t pick the cars registration number. Listen to the driver foolishly enough saying you are lucky. But wasn’t he lucky himself? To me, the girl did very well by thinking so fast to save herself despite the fear. What are we also doing to prevent ourselves as we are not under any pressure and fear?

Ghana aids commission statistics has shown that the youth between the ages of 18 - 35 are the most vulnerable.

Colleagues, I therefore wish to announce that abstinence is the best. This is our time let us be wise to see the brighter future.
